I collect old manual typewriters. Sure, I don't need 'em. Yeah, they are a pain to maintenance. But, its a beautiful, lost art of print. There is something personal, a love language perhaps, about churning out a letter or a poem on an old manual type machine. Its cathartic for me, I think. There is a fair amount of anxiety to get it right the first time, so there is that. OK, maybe not as cathartic as I thought, but worth it nonetheless. But also, the mistakes are just as beautiful. Do I “dash” out the word, or “x” it out? I dunno, get creative with it. Like Kintsugi, the beauty is in the mistakes. Here are some unique gifts I offer with my harem of typewriters.
